Marc Grewe - Vocals (also Bass until 1990) (Action Jackson, Comecon, Power of Expression, Insidious Disease)
Harald Busse - Guitars
Carsten Otterbach - Guitars
Sebastian Swart - Bass (Action Jackson)
Rüdiger Hennecke - Drums, Keyboards

Additional notes
Their original band name during the very early days was Cadaverous Smell, then Minas Morgul. However, since they were all lovers of Tolkien's Lord of the Rings, they chose the name Morgoth (after the renegade and evil Ainu, "the great enemy".) for their band in 1987. The band broke up in 1998.

Morgoth Biografy

MORGOTH was one of the earliest and most important European death metal bands. In 1987 four young kids from Meschede, Marc Grewe (vocals, bass), Carsten Otterbach (guitar), Harry Busse (guitar) and Rüdiger Hennecke (drums), came together in brilliant blasphemy to form this musically trailblazing band, one of the first bands to pick a band name from The Lord Of The Rings. They recorded their first opus, the now legendary Pits Of Utumno demo, which made its way to Robert Kampf’s newly founded Century Media Records in nearby Dortmund. Robert was the only one who had the foresight to see the rise of death metal and the band’s potential. MORGOTH signed a deal with Century Media and their second demo, Resurrection Absurd, was pressed onto vinyl in 1989. After that the band was unstoppable. Having only performed several local underground shows, in early 1990 they took Europe by storm on their debut tour with Pestilence and Autopsy. The next release was mixed at the ultimate death metal temple, Tampa, Florida’s renowned Morrisound Studios where acts like Death, Morbid Angel and Obituary had recorded their classic masterpieces. However, the band was offered a European tour with Obituary and Demolition Hammer, and they only had enough time to record 5 songs for the Eternal Fall EP, which became a milestone of the genre. That same year, to satisfy MORGOTH’s fast growing fanbase, both EP's were put together on one CD. By the end of the year new member Sebastian Swart took over bass duties, leaving Marc to concentrate solely on vocals. Cursed, the band’s first regular full-length studio album was released the following year, introducing fans of extreme death metal to a darker undertone and advanced songwriting. Randy Burns mixed the album at the Music Grinder studio in Los Angeles with the help of MORGOTH's long time friend/producer Dirk Draeger. They toured North America with Kreator, and then Europe with Massacre. To the band’s credit, MTV even picked up the video for “Sold Baptism”. The early 90's were the highpoint of the death metal movement and MORGOTH was the leading German band, but MORGOTH was never a band that stuck with the same image or sound. The next album, Odium, was influenced by some industrial grooves and saw their most aggressive guitar sound yet. Again they played all of the major European festivals and hit the road with the likes of Paradise Lost, Unleashed, Tiamat and more. MORGOTH’s last album came out in 1996 and here the band continued to follow their own path, intertwining industrial and dark 80's influences. The outcome was their most ambitious album ever, Feel Sorry For The Fanatic. Tracks like "Last Laugh" highlighted their flawless heavy groove-oriented songwriting. Unfortunately the band’s old death metal fans didn't follow their innovative musical discoveries, and MORGOTH broke up at the height of their creativity, never taking a step backward.

Additional notes
Avulsed were founded after Dave Rotten moved to Madrid in August 1991 after finishing his (compulsory) military service and decided he wanted to form a band, though it wasn't till February of the following year that they decided on the name 'Avulsed' releasing the first demo - 'Embalmed In Blood' - in late October the same year Dave Rotten's first band was a band called Convulssion, way back in 1988. Dave Rotten owns the label Xtreem Music.

Avulsed Biografy
AVULSED is without any doubt the most veteran and constant band in the Spanish extreme Metal scene since its inception in August '91. Being the most active band in terms of releases (despite of not being a very prolific band) and live performances around the world and never even taking a small break ever since always being loyal to their Death Metal style. The band has been developing its musical style through various demos ("Embalmed in Blood"-'92, "Deformed Beyond Belief"-'93 and "Promo'95") a 7"EP ("Carnivoracity"-'94) which was later re-released as a mini CD ("Carnivoracity") until they recorded their debut album ("Eminence in Putrescence"-'96) through Repulse Rec. where the band showed its pure Death Metal sound mixing up both heavy & brutal riffs with melodic parts being the very first spanish extreme Metal (Death, Black, Grind...) band to get a deal with not only one, but two foreign labels in the year '93 for the release of their 7"EP and split 12"LP that were released in '94. With "Cybergore"-'98 the band proved that there's no boundaries in music and mixed extreme Techno with their traditional Death Metal guitar sound & vocals. In April '99 a colombian label offered the band to release all their demos and unreleased rare recordings on CD ("Seven Years of Decay"-'99). The second album ("Stabwound Orgasm"-'99). Was recorded at Spacelab Studios located in Kempen (Germany) to secure a first-class production and was mastered by James Murphy in California. Again released by Repulse Rec., this album doubled in sales to its predecessor and was licensed by various labels in South-America (Sylphorium), USA/Canada (World War III) and Russia (IronD). In January 2001, the band entered the studios again, this time with producer Roberto Galán, known for his job as sound engineer of the biggest alternative Metal band in Spain HAMLET to record 4 cover songs for different tribute albums which were finally put together as a self'financed MCD ("Bloodcovered"-'01) in a very limited run of 500 copies available only through the band. In August '02, the band travelled again to Germany's Spacelab Studios to record their 3rd album "Yearning for the Grotesque" which came out in Feb.'03 through italian label AvantGarde Music after countless delays and resulting on a very dissapointing work from the label which caused a premature termination of their contract requested by the band in order to be able to find a more suitable label. The band's 4th full-length album "Gorespattered Suicide" was recorded in Madrid at VRS Studios and the masters were later sent to Erik Rutan (HATE ETERNAL/ ex-MORBID ANGEL) who mixed & mastered the album at his own Mana Recording Studios at Florida being released in January '05 by Slovakian label Metal Age Prod. Being followed by a tour in Japan (April '05), European fests like London DeathFest, Obscene Extreme (Czech Rep.), Uncover Train Fest (Paris), plus a completeEuropean tour (15 shows/11 countries) as headliners together with Italian Grinders GRIMNESS 69. "Reanimations"-'06 was released by Xtreem Music and shortly after also by Metal Age Prod. It included two new songs, a new version from a 1st demo song, 3 covers songs (WASP, GOREFEST & EXODUS), plus 8 bands doing covers from AVULSED songs. September '07 sees the first official DVD release by AVULSED with the "Reanimating Russia 2007", recorded in Moscow in June '07 during the band's second Russian tour, and released by Coyote Rec. After 3 years touring and doing fests, like Mexico '06, Russia '06 and '07, Bringer of Death (Ger), Neurotic Death Fest (Hol), Italia '07, Kaltenbach Open Air (Aus), Mountains of Death (Swi), among many others, AVULSED focuses on their upcoming 5th full-length album "Nullo (The Pleasure of Self-Mutilation)"-'09 recorded in Madrid at Room 101 Studios between October '08 and May '09 with Javier Fernández (THE HERETIC/ NEXUS 6) as engineer and producer together with the band, resulting the most aggressive, straight, and complete work in AVULSED career, including all the defining elements for the brutal, catchy, intense and heavy Death Metal that is already the genuine band's trademark!! Including the sick art and design from Mike Hrubovcak (Grave, Monstrosity, Mortician, Cattle Decapitation...). This album was simultaneously released in June '09 through Xtreem Music & Metal Age Prod. in Europe, Coyote Rec. in Russia and will see upcoming releases by Ibex Moon Rec. in the US, American Line Prod. in Mexico/Central America and Sylphorium for the south American territory. Regarding live performances, AVULSED has gained a strong reputation as one of the most intense, aggressive & ferocious bands on stage. Nearly 400 live appearances around the planet where the band has performed three full European Tours (w/SINISTER-'96, w/INCANTATION-'97 and as headliners in '05) and even crossed the Atlantic Ocean 4 times already to play 2 shows in Venezuela (Sept.'99), a 12-dates tour as headliner through central America (May'00) in countries like USA/California (2), Mexico (4), Guatemala (2), El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua & Costa Rica and to play on the 3rd Metal Meltdown Festival in USA/New Jersey (Apr.'01) and a full 9-shows tour in Mexico '06 as well as 2 shows in Japan '05 and three Russian tours ('06/'07/'09). The band has shared stage with hundreds of bands outstanding some like NAPALM DEATH, DESTRUCTION, MANOWAR, CRADLE OF FILTH, SUFFOCATION, ENTOMBED, DISSECTION, VADER, UNLEASHED, CRYPTOPSY, SODOM, IMPALED NAZARENE, DISGORGE (mex), NILE, VOMITORY, AMORPHIS, OPETH, CATHEDRAL, GOREFEST, EXODUS, INFAMY, DETERIOROT, IMPALED NAZARENE, INCANTATION, MONSTROSITY, IMMOLATION, DARK FUNERAL, MORTICIAN, GORGUTS, DIABOLIC, DYING FETUS, TANKARD, GORGASM, FLOTSAM & JETSAM, DEEDS OF FLESH, ROTTEN SOUND, DERANGED, SIX FEET UNDER, JESUS MARTYR, BLOOD, ADRAMELECH, KRISIUN, ENSLAVED, CENTINEX, FLESHGRIND, MALIGNANCY, ABORTED, CATASTROPHIC and tons of others. Upcoming plans for the band includes an European Tour in Sept '09 as headliners accompanied by EMETH & GRIMNESS 69 and some fests like London Death Fest (June '09) as well as intensive playing around Spain and some more spare European shows. The story has just begun for AVULSED after 18 years of non-stopping devotion to something of what the band has already become a synonym: Death Metal!!

One of the pioneering bands of the Death Metal genre. They started playing music in the vein of Venom and Celtic Frost... basically Thrash / Black Metal style. Once the band started hearing groups like Possessed, they realized that they want to make music as "sick as these guys."

Obituary Biografy

Upon switching their name from Xecutioner to Obituary, the career of one of the most successful and influential Death Metal bands began. Hailing from Florida and featuring John Tardy (vocals), brother Donald Tardy (drums), Trevor Peres (guitar), Allen West (guitar), and Daniel Tucker (bass), the band signed to Roadracer Records, a now defunct division of Roadrunner, for the recording of their debut album—the immense and immeasurably heavy “Slowly We Rot” (1989). The album was engineered by the legendary Scott Burns at Morrisound Studio, which would come to be the most sought after facility for production of albums during 1990’s rise of the Death Metal genre. Unlike much death metal preceding it, the album had a sludgy feel and integrated devastatingly slow passages along with obliterating overtures that reached far beyond any point of mayhem that metal had yet to reach; the result was a carnal pleasure for doom, death and thrash fans alike coupling the adrenaline of a speedball with the slow, degrading measures of a sewer at dusk. Like them or not, Obituary was unlike anything anyone had heard before.

“Slowly We Rot” was chaotic, bass heavy mix of manic guitar solos and crashing drums, but it was undeniably characterized by vocalist John Tardy’s disarmingly horrific, gargling style, that created guttural chasms of dread which though often strived for, to date have been paralleled by none. The ability to augment tempo so drastically became the band’s trademark along with Tardy’s unique vocal style, which distinguished them clearly from the rest of the emerging Florida Death Metal bands; nowhere is this more apparent than on the prophetic title track of their debut. The fact that Obituary refrained from printing lyric sheets with their albums led people to believe that they didn't actually write any lyrics. Some may question the verbosity or absence of documented lyrics, however, any true fan has each grunt, growl and howling grimace committed to memory like an utterance from God in painstaking form—what does not exist can not be remembered, and an Obituary show is testimony to the re-creation of what your ears couldn't believe in the first place. Once again bringing augmentation to irony, Live and Dead worked quite well for the quintet, dividing your conscience yet leaving much to the imagination; not since birth have your senses been so graphically assaulted yet pleased at the same time. While such differing sensations once seemed incongruous, Obituary have proven the ability to merge unlikely dichotomies, from their slow-as-hell-yet-fast-as-fuck style to the non-evil, homegrown approach to what would largely become the satanized, bastardized, make-up wearing movement known as Death Metal.

The maturation of the musicians into songwriters taking more visionary and complex forms would soon be heard world wide as Obituary took metal by storm in 1990. Despite their youth upon release of their sophomore offering, “Cause of Death” embodied the confident swagger of the most fearsome pack-leading hound. From the insidious growls of John’s vocals to the barrage of Donald Tardy’s thunderously-metered explosions of double bass, “Cause of Death” was the intention and method as promised by the early threat of “Slowly We Rot”; for Obituary, Death was just the beginning. Accordingly, the title track alone (“Cause of Death”) would be heard, regurgitated, manipulated, complimented and collapsed—but never duplicated—on third and forth generation death metal albums for years to come. Lovecraftian imagery and aural morbidity aside, even a deaf man found fear when confronted by the formidable visage of guitarist Peres; entering Frank Watkins, the hulking henchman of a bassist from South Florida, finally provided long-needed and powerful rhythm stability to the line up. However, the grinding of the axes would not be complete until the return of Xecutioner veteran Allen West, who, along with Peres and Tardy, crafted the foundation for most of Obituary’s most primordial and historic moments. Attack now whole, Obituary had given birth—sight, sound and feel—to a true horror greater than metal had ever known.

The paradox herein lies that Obituary was anything but a summation to and end, but more an exploratory journey into the infinite dehumanization of all that is known, as confronted brazenly by their best selling release yet, “The End Complete” and later followed by the cynical and dark expedition of “World Demise”. Reunited with songwriter West, the band was conjoined like quintuplets sharing life and a name. Though finality was possibly inferred by these titles, Obituary was anything but finished. Ironically, the images conjured by songs such as “Don’t Care”, “Platonic Disease” and “World Demise” seemingly foretold of the millennium as can now be seen daily, displayed plainly across the screens of CNN and reality TV programs world wide; not bad for a bunch of rednecks from Florida with Budweiser dreams and bongwater nightmares.

2004 brings reason for Obituary fans to rejoice, the sunken eyes and heaving cries have all but abated. Obituary has only aspired to live up to the standard they have set for themselves, one that numerous bands have strived to duplicate, but never attained, falling short both creatively and in lack of the unique talent that each member contributes to the near indescribable Obituary sound. Like a forgotten corpse in the basement, Obituary are back to haunt, taunt and fully pollute your senses. Fermenting like waste in the hot Florida sun, Obituary return from hiatus with the voracity of a starven wretch. The forfeiture of time brings blessings of brutality, and assurance that the Dead shall indeed rise again. Such aural abrasion can only be heard on an Obituary album or the live circumcision of a thirty-year-old man, the choice is yours...

Sejarah Festival Rock Indonesia

25 Juli 2009

Sejarah Festival Rock Indonesia

Harley Angels, 2nd Smile, Jamrock, Bissing, Drop Out dan Elpamas.

Sementara Grass Rock hanya beruntung memperoleh juara III dan Rere memperoleh gelar The Best Drumer.

Rere pun kembali menyabet gelar The Best Drumer.

Semifinal pada hari pertama diikuti 25 grup dari 18 propinsi: Sumatera Barat (Cadenza, Pane), Sumatera Utara (Child Band), Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam (Manggots), Sumatera Selatan (Tahta Band, Metafora), Jawa Barat (Ferari, Mujizat), Jawa Tengah (Mr. B), Yogyakarta (Reload), Jawa Timur (The Break, Kobe, Daun), Bali (CTC Band, Big G 256), Sulawesi Selatan (Loe Joe, Indonesia Baru), Sulawesi Utara (Virgin ‘N Untouchable), Sulawesi Tengah (Traxtor), Jakarta (Kanda), Banten (Take Over), Kalimantan Timur (Eldee Cool), Kalimantan Barat (Paris 208), Kalimantan Selatan (Mr. X), dan Kalimantan Tengah (Mario Bross). Mendekati pukul 01.00 dewan juri yang terdiri Artur Kaunang (musisi), Mel Shandy (penyanyi), Remy Sutansyah si teman kita nih (wartawan), Bens Leo (wartawan), Yoyok (grup Padi), Raymond Ariaz (Power Metal), Arul Efansyah (Power Metal), Jockie Suryoprayogo (musisi), Ian Antono (musisi), dan Hubert Hendri (Boomerang) mengumumkan 10 finalis, yakni Take Over (Banten), Daun Band (Kediri), Mujizat (Bandung), Indonesia Baru (Pinrang), Eldee Cool (Samarinda), Mr X (Banjarmasin), Mr B (Klaten), Kanda Band (Jakarta), Kobe (Sidoarjo) dan Loe Joe (Makasar).

Para juara Djarum Super Festival Rock Indonesia ke-X di Stadion Tambaksari Surabaya, 10-11 Desember 2004 adalah: Mujizat Band (Bandung, juara 1), Take Over (Banten, juara 2), Loe Joe (Makasar, juara 3), Mr. X (Banjarmasin, juara harapan), Daun Band (Kediri, juara favorit), Kobe (Sidoarjo, best performance), Billy (Mujizat Band, best guitarist), Ewin (Indonesia Baru Band, best drumer), Erwin Way (Mujizat Band, best bassist), Nora (Daun Band, best keyboard) dan Damar (Take Over Band) sebagai penyanyi terbaik.

Acara sendiri berlangsung lancar sejak pukul 12.00.
